Optical Fast Circuit Switching Networks Employing Dynamic Waveband Tunnel

چکیده
We propose a novel dynamic hierarchical optical path network architecture that achieves efficient optical fast circuit switching. In order to complete wavelength path setup/teardown efficiently, the proposed network adaptively manages waveband paths and bundles of optical paths, which provide virtual mesh connectivity between node pairs for wavelength paths. Numerical experiments show that operational and facility costs are significantly reduced by employing the adaptive virtual waveband connections. key words: hierarchical optical path network, optical circuit switching, routing and wavelength assignment, waveband, dynamic control

A novel analytical model for dynamic waveband switching
We present a novel framework to analytically model dynamic waveband switching in a multi-granular optical network. The scalable solution consists in modeling each potential carrier of waveband tunnels independently by a Markov chain while modulating the rate of critical transitions, i.e. reserving a new waveband tunnel, by the waveband setup availability computed from the solution of other pote...
متن کاملRouting and Wavelength Assignment With Multigranularity Traffic in Optical Networks
We propose a novel switching architecture of multigranularity optical cross-connects (MG-OXCs) for dealing with multigranularity traffic in the optical domain. MG-OXCs can cooperate with the generalized multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) control plane, which provides the advantages of cost reduction, better scalability in physical size, and unified traffic management. Detailed discussions are...
متن کاملResource Management in Survivable Multi-Granular Optical Networks
The last decade witnessed a wild growth of the Internet traffic, promoted by bandwidthhungry applications such as Youtube, P2P, and VoIP. This explosive increase is expected to proceed with an annual rate of 34% in the near future, which leads to a huge challenge to the Internet infrastructure. One foremost solution to this problem is advancing the optical networking and switching, by which abu...
متن کاملEffects of Optical Layer Protection Granularity in Survivable Hierarchical Optical Path Network
This study compares the performances of waveband protection and wavelength path protection in survivable hierarchical optical path networks. Network costs and the number of switching operations necessary are evaluated for different ratios of protected demand. Numerical results demonstrate that waveband protection can drastically decrease the number of switching operations in the case of failure...
متن کاملUniform versus non-uniform band switching in WDM networks
We compare the effectiveness of uniform versus non-uniform waveband switching under the dual cost metrics of switching requirements and fiber capacity. We consider a star topology and begin by characterizing the optimal performance frontier achievable under no restrictions on waveband sizing, and provide algorithms employing non-uniform waveband sizing that approach or achieve this optimum. We ...
